Beach Bonfires are only permissible in Walton County (not Okaloosa County) and require a permit. The easiest way to have a beach bonfire is to contact one of the many businesses in the area that set them up. If you would like to plan a bonfire yourself, you must obtain the permit yourself. SAFETY
Familiarize yourself with the beach flags, rip current safety, and sea turtle protection
No matter how good of a swimmer you may consider yourself to be, pay close attention to the beach flags and be on the lookout for rip currents. When there is a double red flag–stay out of the water and keep
children out of the water as well!
Sea turtle nesting season is May-October, but it is best to practice “Clean, Dark, Flat” year round to protect our beaches, the environment, and other marine and wildlife!
You can get red filter stickers to put on your flashlights (even your phone flashlights) to make your lights turtle safe at night! Get them for free at the South Walton Visitors Center
